Junor golfers pose with their trophies

Junor golfers pose with their trophiesMarch has proved to be a defining month for the regional golfing landscape, as the fairways of the Chandigarh Golf Club played host to two back-to-back tournaments that perfectly illustrated the past, present, and future of the sport. From the fierce, strategic battles of the corporate and amateur ranks to the inspiring grit of the junior circuits, the club transformed into a theater of high-stakes sportsmanship, bridging generations of golfers under the banner of competitive excellence.

The action reached an early crescendo with the eleventh edition of the GB Legends Tee Box Junior Golf Championship; an event designed with the critical mandate of transforming raw youth potential into tournament-ready excellence. Bringing together sixty-four of the region’s most promising young athletes, the championship tested the maturity of players across a vast age spectrum, stretching from seasoned twenty-one-year-old amateurs down to fearless prodigies under the age of six.17

Backed heavily by Amit Sood, the CEO of GB Legends—the sports arm of prominent real estate firm GB Realty—the tournament focused intensely on nurturing talent at the grassroots level. This vision was validated on the scorecard, where the junior field delivered performances that defied their age. In the premier boys divisions, Adhiraaj Singh Gill claimed the Category A crown over Kairav Singh, while Arnav Kumar and Virat Singh dominated Categories B and C respectively. The younger brackets saw equally fierce duels, with Zorawar Singh Chahal taking Category D, Viraj Krishan Chaudhry winning Category E, and Saveer Singh Pruthi anchoring the under-six Category F.

The girls divisions showcased equal depth and striking accuracy. In the senior-most Category A+ bracket, Raza Kaur captured the top spot ahead of Neymat Kaur, while Nyra Singh claimed the Category A title. Teesta Singh Sikarwar put on a clinical display to win Category B, followed by Samyra Randhawa in Category C, Mahika Sharma in Category D, and young Anaysha Bharghav in Category E. When the final tallies were made for the elite Best Gross honors, it was Zorawar Singh Chahal and Teesta Singh Sikarwar who paced the older divisions, while Viraj Krishan Chaudhry and Anaysha Bharghav swept the younger categories, receiving their trophies from Chandigarh Golf Club President RS Virk and Chashma Shah Sports Founder Darvesh Kumar.

16Just as the excitement from the junior ranks settled, the club pivoted to welcome the veterans and seasoned amateurs for the prestigious tenth edition of the Chasma Shah Team Golf Championship. If the junior tournament was about individual growth, this landmark two-day event was a masterclass in team dynamics, strategy, and mutual trust. Playing on a pristine course, the field battled through a variety of formats where consistency and composure under pressure were the only currencies that mattered.

In the highly competitive Net Category, team chemistry proved to be the ultimate decider. Group A saw a masterful performance from the powerhouse duo of Arshdeep Tiwana and Randeep Chonkar, playing under the banner of Team Inarah B, who clinched the title with a stellar score of 222.8, narrowly fending off the formidable Zookey Beans pairing of Vicky Janjua and Arvind Bajaj. In Group B, the narrative belonged to Naunuhal Singh and M. P. Singh of the GB Legends, who demonstrated immense tactical discipline to secure the top spot with a score of 223.8 over the runners-up, ADS Falcons.

The drama intensified through the unpredictable Double Peoria format, which always requires rapid adaptation. Fairway Hawks, represented by Ravibir Singh and Raman Gill, flew high to win Group A with a score of 209.5, leaving Devils Own in second place. In Group B, the Grizzly Buddies duo of Dharmendra Bohra and Imran tamed the course to post a brilliant 209, finishing just ahead of the Ocean Homes team.

The shifting momentum of the two days also highlighted early trendsetters and brilliant individual bursts. Day one belonged to the Birdie Bandits and the Beers & Cheers crew, who set the early pace for their respective groups. By the final day, individual brilliance took center stage as Arshdeep Tiwana reminded the gallery of his exceptional caliber by carding the tournament’s best gross score of 74. Ruhail Singh Azaad calibrated his game perfectly to seize the individual Double Peoria title, while Sanjeev Chaudhry and Peeyush Khandka claimed the specialized Closest to Pin and Straightest Drive awards.

Yet, for all the intense mathematical calculations of the leaderboards, the true spirit of the Chasma Shah Championship was mirrored in its unique demographic spectrum. In a poignant moment during the closing ceremony, the organizers raised a glass to Dr. R. S. Chaudhry, honored as the senior-most player on the field, and celebrated Precious Bansal, the youngest participant. It was a beautiful, full-circle reminder that echoed the very essence of the junior tournament held just days prior. Together, both championships proved that golf in Chandigarh is not merely a weekend pastime, but a thriving, multigenerational community built on a shared passion for the game.
